Remember, its only a game...

Scarlet Dragna has never left her little island of Trisda but has always dreamed of visiting Caraval a once a year, week long show where invitees participate in the magic. She has written to the Master of the game, Legend, for over 7 years and he has finally sent tickets for herself and her sister, Donatella, to come and take part in the magic that is Caraval. For Scarlet and Donatella, Caraval is a way to escape the abuse of their father but Scarlet is very cautious and doesn't like to take chances. She needs to keep her focus before she loses her sister forever.

I have to admit that the beginning of the book was very slow for me and at a point I wanted to give up reading it, but something told me to hold on and give it another shot. As soon as Scarlet arrived at Caraval, I was captivated with the way Garber painted a world of colour, mystery and love. The book is beautifully written and has the power to draw you in. If you like being transported to other worlds and being captivated by magic, then this book is definitely for you.

Madeline Whittier is allergic to the outside world. So allergic, in fact, that she has never left the house in all of her seventeen years. She is content enough—until a boy with eyes the color of the Atlantic Ocean moves in next door. Their complicated romance begins over IM and grows through a wunderkammer of vignettes, illustrations, charts, and more.

I have to admit that I hadn't heard of this book before I saw the movie trailer for the movie. After falling in love with the movie, I knew I had to get the book. I searched long and hard for this book and finally had to have it couriered from another branch. But I got my book and devoured it in a day.

This book is uniquely written by way of journal entries and short paragraphs. You are taken on a journey of a girl, barred from leaving her house due to her illness, her falling in love with the new guy and how she figures out that she needs to experience everything. She needs to risk everything to have live one day.

Everything, everything is basically everything. It is heart warming, special and at the end shows you exactly how far a parent who has lost everything and everyone will go, to protect the one they have left.

If you are looking for a quick read, I recommend this book. Although aimed at a younger audience, I would say everyone should read it.
